Hluey Lakes Hydroelectric Project

Power Distribution Protection & Controls System Commissioning

Westpark successfully completed the installation and commissioning of the 3MW Pelton turbine for the Hluey Lakes Hydroelectric Project located 20 km southwest of Dease Lake, BC.

The Project is owned by the Stikine Nation Power Corporation, and project engineering is lead by the Stothert Group of Vancouver.

The Project consists of 5 km of low pressure penstock made of varying materials, an intake dam, a surge shaft with a remotely operated safety gate located at the transition of the low and high pressure penstock, 1.5 km of high pressure penstock leading into a bifurcation, and a powerhouse which for now houses a single 3 MW 2 Jet Pelton turbine and Kato generator. The powerhouse will ultimately house a second turbine and generator. A substation located at the powerhouse transforms the generator output from 4.16kV to 25kV and power is delivered to the nearby town of Dease Lake via a 16 km transmission line.

Westpark Electric was responsible for the complete mechanical and electrical installation of the turbine and generator in the powerhouse, as well as specialty commissioning services for the powerhouse, substation and tie in at BC Hydro s Dease Lake Generating Station.
