Sechelt Creek Hydroelectric Project

Transmission Lines Power Distribution Substations Protection & Controls

Westpark Electric Ltd., completed two contracts of work at the 16MW Sechelt Creek Hydroelectric Project.

The first contract was for the Owner, Conwest Exploration and Development Corporation Ltd., which involved the design and construction of a 138kv substation, including procurement of all equipment.

The second contract was for the Turbine and Generator supplier in which the scope of work involved the installation of all electrical equipment, with all permanent materials being supplied by GEC Alsthom Neyrpic Minihydro Inc., the manufacturer.

The Sechelt Creek Hydro Project is one of several small IPP projects which have recently been developed in BC. The project consisted of two 8MW Pelton turbines generating at 13.8kv, connected to an existing BC Hydro 138kv transmission line. The site was at a remote location, accessible by water or air only.

The powerhouse is home for the two turbines, 13.8kv switchgear, control and ancillary equipment. An underground line carries the generator output 100m to the substation where the voltage is transformed to 138kv by a 20MVA transformer. A 300m 138kv transmission line ties the power plant into the BC Hydro main grid.
